Clicking with people, is just as important as clicking the shutter.
Hi, I'm John, and I live smack-bang in the middle of rural Northumberland with my wife, Christina; my little boy, Arthur-Felix; my black lab cross, Treacle Toffee; and my adopted cat, Figgy Pudding.
And without a doubt, I have the best job in the world!
I get to meet and work with the most amazing people. I share their laughter, their jitters and nerves, and their tears of joy and happiness. I witness their love for each other, how they gaze into each other's eyes, and one of the most important kisses they'll ever share. I watch them hold each other close, steal secret kisses in the rain, and dance together as if for the first time, even though they have done so many times before. I get to meet their friends and family, watch fathers cry as they pass on the mantle of protection to someone else, and see mothers looking on proudly as the most precious thing they have ever held takes their first few steps in their new lives with someone else.
I see love and joy unfold before me, and I do this every time I go to work. And the best part? I get to capture these fleeting moments of magic and freeze them in time, so the people who experience them can look back at them and be moved, all over again.
I'm a wedding photographer, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

A Little Bit About Me
I've been a wedding photographer now for five years and in that time, I've captured some amazing big days! From 13th Century castles and manor houses, to the tops of lighthouses, no two weddings are ever the same, and each is filled with little touches that reflect the couples that organise them. I mostly shoot weddings in the North East and Scotland from my home in Northumberland, but I have a second-base in Lancashire too, and do shoot weddings all over the country, including Yorkshire, Cumbria and The Lake District, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. I also travel abroad.
For the past two years, I've been training an apprentice, Caitlin Goodall, who has blossomed into an amazing wedding photographer. This year, she will be taking on weddings of her own under the JPRShah Photography brand as a trusted member of the team.
I'm a recommended supplier for many outstanding venues, including Capheaton Hall and Langley Castle in Northumberland, Ripley Castle in Yorkshire, Dalston Hall in Cumbria, Dalhousie Castle in Edinburgh, and The Ashes Barns in Staffordshire. My work has also been featured in numerous blogs and magazines, including Brides Up North, Love my Dress, Boho Weddings, Belle Bridal, The Scottish Wedding Directory, and Pink Weddings Magazine. I was also a Regional Finalist in The 2018 and 2020 Wedding Industry Awards for Best Wedding Photographer North East & Yorkshire and my photographs have won numerous Wedisson awards.
Well, what can I say about myself? I have an axe, a kilt, and a beard. I love being around people, I have a wicked sense of humour, and I almost certainly will flirt with your mum. I like prosecco, my favourite animal is the brown bear, and I love being outside foraging in the forest, just like a bear. I like Dim-Sum, I smoke shisha, I wear a bandanna, and I love chopping wood and watching Arnold Schwarzenegger movies (not at the same time!). I'm at my happiest though, being out in the world with a camera in my hand, or playing dinosaurs with my son.

“...You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, and the people you have loved...”
A Little Bit About You
I'm very lucky to receive around 250 enquiries every year, but I do limit the number of weddings I shoot every season to about 30, to make sure that my clients get the best out of me, and that I have at least some weekends free to spend with my family. It's therefore so important that I'm the right photographer for you - that we click.
The clients I have worked with in the past all had some things in common:
1. Their wedding photos were very important to them.
2. They loved my work as soon as they saw it.
3. They talked a lot about photos and shared their ideas with me.
4. They took lots of care to make sure their wedding reflected them as a couple.
5. They didn't want "stand over there and smile" type photos.
6. They wanted mostly natural, candid images with a few epic 'wow' shots thrown in.
7. They were adventurous, and didn't mind getting a bit wet or bringing wellies.
8. They didn't want on-trend retro-filter style images.
9. They were happy to plan with a little extra time for photographs on their day.
10. They loved to laugh and have fun.
If you and your partner are digging this, then you are the type of couple I'd be thrilled to work with. Smash that get in touch link so we can get the ball rolling. Do It! Do It Now!*
